Tieli Youth Activity Center

Location: Heilongjiang, China

Site Area: 3.0 ha

Building Area: 12,200 sqm

Client: Tieli Government

The project is situated on the south side of Chengnan Street, east of Tienian Road, and west of Nanyuan Huayuan Community, benefiting from convenient transportation in the surrounding area. It is an excellent location for creating the city's third space for children.

The project aims to establish a base that inspires continuous learning and exploration of knowledge for young people, a place that nurtures dreams and uncovers knowledge – a lively and content-rich world for children called the "Star Territory." Simultaneously, it serves as a second campus for students, promoting social innovation and expanding the functions of social education. It also functions as a shared space for citizens, representing the city's third space.

The design focuses on the spatial requirements for three different experiential aspects: "teaching," "learning," and "playing." It seeks to provide ample opportunities and places for students, citizens, and other users to engage in comprehensive and layered communication between students. Departing from the traditional dual-sided corridor spatial form, the design employs a circular and concentric layout to functionalize and add a sense of playfulness to the space. The horizontally flowing circulation cleverly connects the West Zone Theater with the main activity spaces in the East Zone. Within the functional blocks of the activity center, the design integrates the natural aspects of outdoor spaces, vertically linking the primary functional blocks and office service functions. Consequently, from south to north, there is a transition from a "natural circle" providing ample activity space for young people to a "cultural circle" seamlessly combining teaching and learning in a life-oriented manner.
