Nanjing Hongshan Zoo Children Experience Museum

Location: Jiangsu, China

Site Area: 2.5 ha

Building Area: 41,000 sqm

Client: Topspring Group

The project is located in the northern part of the main urban area of Nanjing, at the southeast corner of the Hongshan Forest Zoo. To the south lies Xuanwu Lake, and to the east, there is a view of Purple Mountain, providing inherent natural landscape advantages. It is part of the development of the "Laimeng Metropolis" project by the owner.

The area around the Hongshan Zoo is in a non-core area of the secondary commercial circle in the urban area, and the supporting facilities are still in the early stage of sightseeing and leisure. The market is lacking a destination-type product that integrates ecological, leisure, entertainment, cultural creativity, and other compound functional experiences. In view of this, leveraging the location advantages of the zoo, the project is positioned with a focus on children and families. Apart from providing a commercial center function that meets daily family-oriented consumption and activities in a high-quality environment, it aims to create a compound format family experience destination that integrates shopping, dining, leisure, entertainment, cultural arts, and specialty services.

In terms of design, the project fully utilizes the existing site elevation differences, adopting an enclosed central square architectural form with sunken squares and terraced designs as features. This creates an open, experiential, and leisure-oriented family experience destination, fostering multi-level indoor and outdoor activity spaces. At the same time, the open square can be flexibly used for various event venues.
