Suzhou Wujiang Youth Reading Museum

Location: Jiangsu, China

Building Area: 5,000 sqm

Client: Suzhou Wujiang City Investment Development Co., Ltd.

This project is located on the second floor of the Wujiang Expo Center Planning Exhibition Hall and is a library experience center for teenagers. The design concept is "an expanded journey about reading," creating an interactive and shared reading space that serves not only reading but goes beyond it. It provides seven creative paths, including "Yue Xiang Valley" (fun reading), "Yan Xi Garden" (guided reading), "Yue Du Lang" (shared reading), "Ju Le Ting" (social space), "Yi Zuo Lin" (artistic inspiration), "Maoxian Castle" (exploration and play), and "Yue Yuan" (reception center), aiming to create a journey of expanded space experience for teenagers through reading. The design responds cleverly to the characteristics and diverse needs of teenagers of different age groups.

The "Yue Yuan" as the reception center includes a waiting area for parents and self-service borrowing. The "Yue Du Lang" mainly serves readers aged 12-18, providing a quiet and gentle reading space with a stable color tone, suitable for quiet reading. The integrated design of tables, chairs, and bookshelves combines book storage and reading space, cleverly transforming the disadvantage of different floor heights into an integrated spatial form.

The "Yue Xiang Ge" mainly serves children aged 6-12, offering an interactive reading area emphasizing a free and relaxed atmosphere, creating a jungle-like reading experience. Here, children can participate in book clubs and sharing sessions, making it an excellent place for children's social reading. The "Yan Xi Gu" is a guided reading and group reading area, creating a private and natural courtyard space atmosphere.

The "Ju Le Ting" and "Yi Zuo Lin" are free interactive social and art experience areas. The design uses light and shadow techniques to set interesting spatial nodes, creating a garden after reading. The "Maoxian Island" is specifically for children aged 0-6, providing an active, surprising, and novel exploration and play space. It is a paradise for children, allowing them to see the world from a child's perspective. The raised floor, lowered ceiling, graffiti-friendly walls, and slides provide a joyful and educational experience.
