Location: Shanxi, China

Site Area: 23.3 ha

Building Area: 390,000 sqm

Client: Shanxi Investment Real Estate Development Co. Ltd.

Shanxi Taigu Mencius's Mother Health Culture City Architectural & Landscape Design is located in the central new town on the north side of Taigu, Taiyuan. Along the west side of the city’s main developing axis and adjacent to the Wuma river to the north, the project is situated within a promising economic development zone. On the premise of considering the city planning and the vernacular cultural characters, the project aims to explore the possibility of a pioneering project of high quality for the elderly.

The whole project has been divided into two by the south-north civil road, , which turn out to be a private elder apartment zone to the west, as well as a semi-open service zone along with the existing Mengmu cultural plaza. By separating the residential zone and the service zone respectively, the whole project ensures the high quality of the apartments and the fully developed elderly industry. Meanwhile, multiple activities and facilities significantly enhance the overall experience, service and social impact. The low-density development, combined with more public green spaces, all together render a pleasant vocational atmosphere.

Bringing in the most advanced elderly community development standards from abroad, the design emphases a balanced yet flexible spatial character, so as to embrace natural lighting, ventilation and landscape. All of the units are divided into two groups, 60-70 m² ones and 90-100 m² ones. What’s more, different units could be combined into one accordingly, which lives up to the expectations of various customers. Traditional Chinese cultural characters have been re-presented, in terms of the façade and the spatial combination, in a modern way of design. Therefore, an integrated cultural experience has been coherently developed, through the use of vernacular characters.
