The masterplan for a new campus in Cairo, designed to accommodate 3000 students, was developed by Ilhan Zeybekoglu in 1998 during his tenure as the senior vice president of BDC (Boston Design Collaborative). Zeybekoglu, serving as one of the two principal designers, secured first place in a major international competition held among the six largest US architectural firms.
This ambitious campus project, tailored to host over ten thousand users, stands as a prominent and pivotal institution in the Middle East. The design for the American University in Cairo's campus was finalized in 2008, with all construction work concluded by that time.
